Description

Kazan Federal University was founded in 1804 as an Imperial Kazan University which got a status of the Federal 2010. In Russia, it is one of the oldest universities and celebrated its 210 anniversary in 2014. This milestone is considered as another token of the university’s dedication to its longstanding academic mission as one of the leading educational institutions in Russia and in the world.


The university gained its international fame because of its distinguished scholars and graduates whose achievements have had a beneficial effect on the whole of mankind. University’s unique culture shaped the development of Kazan and the Volga region. The new federal status of the university was obtained in 2010 and poses new interesting challenges and calls for new approaches in the rapidly changing world. KFU has partner agreements with approximately 190 universities and research centers from more than 53 countries all over the world.
 
Kazan Federal University is an acknowledged center of academic excellence which engaged in various forms of international cooperation. There are 300 plus agreements with partners from 64 countries and also a member of 15 international academic associations. In total over 50,000 students enrolled in all programs which include 9,700 international students from 106 countries. There are 687-degree programs in various disciplines and 10 double degree programs with partner universities. Moreover, the university has 13 institutes, 3 higher schools, 1 faculty, and 2 regional branches in Yelabuga and Naberezhnyne Chelny. 
 
There are 4000 faculty members and 157 invited professors from world-renowned universities and research centers. In 2017, there are 485 international students who enrolled in the university and 326 international students who completed their programs from the university. The university is having 150 world-class research open laboratories, undergoing 71international projects, 162 international scientific conferences, and seminars with more than 1,400international participants and 2,328 publications in Scopus and Web of Science.
 
At present Kazan Federal University is a dynamic modern university that participates in local and international cooperation, networking with academia and industry, boosting the region’s human resources development, as well as top-level research and innovation in different areas. In recent years multiple centers of excellence and world-class research and teaching laboratories have been established. Determination is seen to reach the highest levels of global education rankings by the participation in the Project 5-100 designates. It is evident from the achievements that the university is following the right choice of strategy and made a research university from a classical university where entrepreneurial and innovative activities are prominently represented.
