Ulyanovsk State Medical University (USU) was established in 1988 and is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Ulyanovsk Oblast (population approx. 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants). Authoritatively accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Ulyanovsk State University is the youngest university in the city of Ulyanovsk.

The University was founded with the adoption of Council of Ministers to unbolt in Ulyanovsk branch of Moscow State University. During 1995, a branch of Moscow State University in the city of Ulyanovsk was transformed into Ulyanovsk State University. At that time, 200 students were enrolled in Ulyanovsk State University.

However, at present, Ulyanovsk State University is combining classic university tradition with the latest trends in the international education systems. Ulyanovsk State University provides the development of moral, scientific and cultural values of the society through quality training, outlining the future enlargement of the main sectors of the economy and social infrastructure in the region.

Ulyanovsk State University is one of the largest higher educational institutions in the Volga Region, which comprises six institutes, seven independent faculties, two affiliates, six learning centers and many international study centers. The university enrolls about 16,000 students, among them almost 200 foreign citizens from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America. Currently, the university employs 1,254 faculty members, including 138 Doctorate and 623 Candidate of Science degree holders.
