Description

The University of Zagreb was established in 1669 and it is one of the oldest and biggest universities in South-Eastern Europe. The University of Zagreb offers education and research and in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences) and a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate as a comprehensive public Central European university. It consists of 29 Faculties, 3 Art Academies, and the University Centre for Croatian Studies and it is the flagship educational institution in the country, a place where more than 7900 teachers and 72480 students develop knowledge and acquire skills.

The University contributing over 50 percent to the annual research output in Croatia and 80 percent of the scientific productivity of all Croatian universities. The central strategic issue of the future development of the University is to be a research-oriented institution with the teaching of high quality. As per this, the focus is on master and doctoral programs by encompassing all fields of science and art and boosting trans-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research as well as translational research, also nurturing the culture of innovation and transfer of knowledge which should result in better intersectoral harmonization on local and regional levels.

A new campus building “Borongaj” is in the process which is the biggest investment in Croatian education in the last 150 years, and when it is built means finished it will be used by more than 20 000 students. The campus of the university was officially opened on October 12th, 2007 and for now, it hosts 4 university units which include the Centre for Croatian Studies, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Traffic Engineering and Faculty of Economics and Business (only vocational study programs in economics and business). Moreover, five other faculties are also planning to relocate to the Campus in the next few years and besides the (re)construction of university buildings, the Campus will be home to a sports center, student residence hall, and a number of institutes.

The university develops international contacts with foreign universities based on mutually coordinated and signed agreements and supporting the following general forms of cooperation which includes student and faculty exchange, exchange of administrative and professional staff, joint organization of courses, study tours, conferences and seminars, participation in scientific conferences, symposia and seminars, joint research projects, including applications for governmental and foundation funding, exchange of experience and information on the syllabi, methodology of teaching and techniques applied to the didactic process, exchange of scientific publications, and other forms of university co-operation of mutual interest.

Library: - National and University Library in Zagreb is the national library of Croatia and the central library of the University of Zagreb. The Library was established in 1607. The Library houses approximately 3 million volumes, on 12,900m of shelving in open-access reading rooms, and an additional 110,000m of mobile shelving in closed stacks. The net floor area is 36,478m2 and the gross floor area 44,432m2 . Acquisitions under legal deposit total 18,194 monographic publications and 3,625 serial publications. There are 1,030 foreign serial titles and 4,865 foreign books. The holdings in the special collections number 11,430 items. There are 7,281 items of non-book materials, and 986 items of electronic materials. The university has a seating capacity of more than 1,100 people at a time.
Sports: - The institute has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities on the campus like table tennis, basketball, volleyball, swimming pool, etc.
Labs: - The institute has a well-equipped lab on the campus with modern equipment and tools.
Computer lab: - The institute has a well-equipped computer lab on the campus with the latest computer machines and tools.

HOSTEL

The university is providing two types of accommodation for international students i.e. student residence hall or private accommodation. The university has 3 student residence halls in which students can choose one of them based on their needs, requirement, and budget. Following are some of the important details of hostels:
1. University distance from Hostel: - The university hostels are very much near to the university main building but in the case of private accommodation, it depends on the student where he or she chooses to live and how far it is from the main building of the university.
2. Room occupancy info: - The hostels are available in double, and triple sharing occupancies in rooms. Students can choose one of them based on their needs, requirement, and budget.
3. Basic Amenities: - All the rooms are well-furnished and air-conditioned with all the necessary amenities like a bed, bed sheets, mattress, WIFI internet facility, etc.
4. Laundry room info: - Every hostel is having a common laundry room that can be used by every student on that particular floor.
5. Kitchen info: - Each floor of every hostel is having a common kitchen that can be used by every student of that particular floor. Kitchens are shared with 2-3 electric burners, and a microwave, where students can cook their meals whenever they want to do.
6. Washroom and Toilet info: - Each floor of every hostel is having a common washroom and a common toilet which can be used by every student of that particular floor.
7. Boy and Girl Division info: - Boys and Girls hostels are separate.
8. Security info: - All the hostels are very safe and secure as they have security cameras in every hostel for the student safety.
9. Indian Mess availability info: - Indian food facility is not available in the hostel.
10. Gym info: - Gym facility is also available in the hostel for every student.
