Overview
The two oldest Educational and Medical establishments in Russia, St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. I. Mechnikov, merged to form North-Western State Medical University Russia, which bears Mechnikov's name. This merger took place on October 12, 2011. Thanks to this, the University has become the successor of a long history, rich experience and age-old traditions of two medical institutes of St. Petersburg at once.
The founder of the University is the Ministry of Health of Russia, which means that all services provided here are properly controlled at the state level.
